Danville Science Center Presents Shakespeare and Galileo
A Carpenter Science Theatre Company Play
What happens when great minds of an age get together? Travel back in time to the Inquisition. The place is Padua, Italy. The year is 1588. Galileo Galilei’s life may be in danger. Why? He believes that Earth revolves around the sun. The Roman Catholic Church of the time considers Galileo’s vision a heresy. It could cost him his life. That’s when William Shakespeare makes Galileo’s acquaintance. What role could Shakespeare have played in Galileo’s life? Find out when the Carpenter Science Theatre Company play Shakespeare and Galileo is presented by the Danville Science Center at The North Theatre, Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7. Danville’s Old 97 Rail Days
Turn back the clock exactly 105 years to September 27, 1903. Express mail train Old 97 careens off a Danville trestle. The engine and cars hurtle 75 feet into a rocky creek bed below. Eleven men lose their lives. Six men are injured. Only one man escapes unharmed. See a miniature version of the wreck scene in the Science Station lobby. Now that you’re thinking model trains watch N-scale trains traveling through tiny towns and rural areas. Visit a fully restored Norfolk and Western caboose. Everywhere you look there’s something to see and do when the Danville Science Center hosts Danville’s Old 97 Rail Days on Saturday, September 27, 9:00 am-5:00 pm and Sunday, September 28, 11:00 am-2:00 pm.
